Music Review: Zo – SunStorm

Let me start by saying that this album proves there is still artistry in music.  It’s refreshing.  That said, as a professional appreciator and music buyer, I have a choice as to how I spend my hard earned money and today I spent it on Zo!

This album is a music collage. Some would argue that it’s R&B, some may call it Hip-Hop, some might even say Disco.  I call it Soul music, because SunStorm is good for your soul.

If you’ve picked up any of the other releases from the good folks at Foreign Exchange Music, SunStorm might feel a lot like a family reunion.  All of the usual players are here (Darrien Brockington, Phonte, YahZarah, Carlitta Durand) including some new (Sy Smith, Lady Alma, Chantae Cann, Monica Blaire) and some unexpected as well (Eric Roberson, Jesse Boykins III).

I’m going to say this, and I mean it as the highest compliment to Zo!, SunStorm is the type of album that you throw in the deck on a breezy Summer night and completely ignore.  Now I know that sounds like a bad thing, but let me tell you, some of my favorite albums in the entire world are best enjoyed when I don’t have to pay attention to them.  SunStorm is one of those albums.  It sets the vibe and makes you feel good.
